MIRAMAR TOURIST OFFICE VANDALISED

Miramar tourist office

Last July the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, gave Carlos Eleno, the Director of Ports and Transport for Valencia, a guided tour around the new Tourist Offices on the site of the former Miramar restaurant. He said that the center would usher in a new era as a pioneer tourist office in the region, with its focus being that of a tourist information office, not just for the Torrevieja but for all of Valencia

At that time the establishment was still under renovation but not too far from completion. Dolon said that completion was anticipated within 20 or so days and was yet another positive sign of the faith that Torrevieja is becoming a driving force for Tourism in the region.

Shortly after showing around his high profile guest, despite being just days away from completion, it would appear that the renovation work was then put on hold.

There has now been a gap of several months in which time windows have been broken and the building subjected to extensive vandalism so the ambitions of Dolon that were cited at the time of making it the main tourist office in Torrevieja seem to have suffered rather in the intervening g period.

The council had contracted a local company to complete the works which were valued at over € 70,000. However, the new Tourism Councillor, Luis Maria Pizana now says that their progress has been paralyzed by bureaucracy.

However a new contract is in the process of renegotiation which Pizana says will be signed in the coming days. She said that the council now wants to open the new facilities in the 2013 tourist season.

The reason why the works were not completed last year was because municipal crews found a lot more work than they had initially planned.

It would appear that the vandalism had only been carried our recently. It was first noticed last Friday and so far is limited to three broken windows and graffiti on the terrace.
