MIRAMAR TOURIST OFFICE VANDALISED

Miramar tourist office

Last July the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, gave Carlos Eleno, the Director of Ports and Transport for Valencia, a guided tour around the new Tourist Offices on the site of the former Miramar restaurant. He said that the center would usher in a new era as a pioneer tourist office in the region, with its focus being that of a tourist information office, not just for the Torrevieja but for all of Valencia

At that time the establishment was still under renovation but not too far from completion. Dolon said that completion was anticipated within 20 or so days and was yet another positive sign of the faith that Torrevieja is becoming a driving force for Tourism in the region.

Shortly after showing around his high profile guest, despite being just days away from completion, it would appear that the renovation work was then put on hold.

There has now been a gap of several months in which time windows have been broken and the building subjected to extensive vandalism so the ambitions of Dolon that were cited at the time of making it the main tourist office in Torrevieja seem to have suffered rather in the intervening g period.

The council had contracted a local company to complete the works which were valued at over € 70,000. However, the new Tourism Councillor, Luis Maria Pizana now says that their progress has been paralyzed by bureaucracy.

However a new contract is in the process of renegotiation which Pizana says will be signed in the coming days. She said that the council now wants to open the new facilities in the 2013 tourist season.

The reason why the works were not completed last year was because municipal crews found a lot more work than they had initially planned.

It would appear that the vandalism had only been carried our recently. It was first noticed last Friday and so far is limited to three broken windows and graffiti on the terrace.

Work on Torrevieja’s new market continues

AFTER A year of little activity, Torrevieja’s new planned market area has now sprung back into life. Located near the Parque Antonio Soria, the area is designated to hold the traditional Friday street market, which presently takes place in the area beside the Torrevieja’s Bus Station, which is Spain’s largest Friday Market. However, despite the strong tradition and power of concentration in the centre of the city there are a number of drawbacks because of its current location. It is located in a predominantly urban area with significant traffic congestion on market days, frequent inconvenience to neighbours, and above all, immense difficulties if it would be necessary to evacuate the area in case of any emergency in the market zone. This is due to the complexity of the urban fabric in which it is located and the new location, though outside of the town centre is designed to be a place for the future of the city, with 5,000 parking spaces and easy access for buses and cars, plus more vendor space.

The hold up with the construction was primarily due to having to design special drainage channels and adapt the area for the channelling of rainwater. Rainwater gathers takes on a road so close to the same site, including the N332. In fact, one of the advantages of the location of the new market zone is its easy access from both the N332 and from other roads of the city, which will allow most residents or visitors to enter its vicinity within minutes from any location in the municipality. In short, this enclosure constitutes the most substantial of all in which the Department of Infrastructure has invested in the city, amounting to a total of 5,328,885.60€.

Other events that could be held within the area are markets of all kinds, such as medieval, antique, trade shows, car displays plus there are also two service buildings, one for police checkpoint, a medical emergency room, management zone, container area, cafe, toilets and other facilities. The site will also have improvements in landscaping, woodland and garden ornaments plus it’s designed to share the large parking space with neighbouring trade and shopping units, which are also expected in the future. It’s also planned to move the May Fair to this area of the city away from the Harbour zone, which it has outgrown.

The new market area is located in a strategic location of the municipality beside the sports city and for it’s size, dimensions, accessibility and synergy with other recreational areas and municipal services; the market is truly placed in a strategic point of the city. It’s beside the industrial zone, nightclubs, concert zone plus sports facilities, multiple entertainment venues, a waterpark, and new catering firms that have been implemented in the area in recent months. Antonio Soria Park adjoins the Market which is designed to house concerts of up to 30,000 people. No date has been given for the finishing of the market zone, but it’s expected to be open possibly for the 2013 May Fair.

I think most people who go to the street market don't have cars and the new location would be very inconvenient for a lot of local people.

I think you are correct Marian. It is what so many of us have said ever since they came up with the silly idea. It will be a White Elephant, all in the wrong place.

A fresh Interest in Spain

Are you looking for a new project in life? Something to get your teeth into? A new interest?
Whether it be fairly small or a somewhat larger project?
Well we have a few Projects available locally in your immediate area .
They range from locally just looking after your own towns flow of information on it’s forum. With a positive leaning towards local charity events, being well published including the news of how the event went. Also to help local smaller independent businesses who are putting on local events or special offers being well publicized on the forum. Plus overseeing, the local Wall section.
On a larger scale certain areas are available as a business project. In this case a small rental would be paid to ASL.
There is also an opportunity in a few areas for either Estate Agents or Rental Agents to take on board the possibility of receiving all the incoming inquiry’s for Property for sale or Rental inquiries. These are now increasing day by day.
A Spanish Life is Ranked in the top 3 on Google (and very shortly it will be the No1 Forum). La Marina Life and other areas in the group such as Quesada Life are No1 already which means that "A Spanish Life" is starting to prove to be a force to reckon with in Spain. These forums are followed very closely in other Countries by property owners who just own a local villa or apartment over here.

SO - is this for you? If so, please contact us at ootsATlineone.net

The Solicitor..........A friend has just sent me this. ENJOY..............

A Solicitor parked his brand new Porsche in front of the office to show it off to his colleagues.

As he was getting out of the car, a truck came speeding along too close to the kerb and took off the door before zooming off.

More than a little distraught, the Solicitor grabbed his mobile and called the police.

Five minutes later, the police arrive. Before the policeman had a chance to ask any questions, the man started screaming hysterically: My Porsche, my beautiful silver Porsche is ruined. No matter how long it's at the panel beaters, it'll simply never be the same again!

After the man finally finished his rant, the policeman shook his head in disgust.

I can't believe how materialistic you bloody Solicitors are. he said. You lot are so focused on your possessions that you don't notice anything else in your life.

How can you say such a thing at a time like this? sobbed the Porsche owner.

The policeman replied: Didn't you realise that your arm was torn off when the truck hit you?

The Solicitor looked down in horror.

F***ing hell! he screamed. Where's my Rolex?

Torrevieja

you would not credit it Carol, but I was married to a man like this. Our son took our car whilst we where on holiday and crashed it so badly it rolled over and over, with my son and his friend inside. When my elder son rang us to let us know about the accident, never asking about how our youngest son was, he started to scream and shout dementedly that his precious car was a write off, I could not believe it.

Government warns of tax rebate phishing scam

TAX authorities in Spain have warned of a series of 'phishing' emails going round purporting to be from them and telling the recipient he or she has a refund due.

These emails, which the tax ministry says look very authentic, ask for the person's bank details to reimburse them overpaid tax for the previous year.

This then allows the sender to empty the victim's account.

Normally, to get a tax refund due, residents have to fill out a form very similar to that which shows on the email.

But the ministry says it only ever returns overpaid tax via strictly-controlled and secure channels, usually by mailing a hard copy of the refund notice in the post from the government's tax collection agency, the Agencia Tributaria.

The ministry of tax will never ask for credit card or debit card details via a form on their website.

They have uncovered the scam as a result of various reports from residents in Spain saying they had received these emails.
